Scripture for the Day – May 27, 2020
Psalm 34:2: My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad.
The humble will hear things others don’t and it will make them glad.
Psalm 100:2 says, “Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.”
Psalm 69:32 says, “The humble shall see this and be glad; and you who seek God, your hearts shall live.”
The humble will also see things that others don’t and live life to the fullest.
James 4:6 says, “God resists the proud but gives great grace to the humble.”
The Amplified Bible says, “Therefore, it says, ‘God is opposed to the proud and haughty, but [continually] gives [the gift of (grace to the humble) who turn away from self-righteousness.’”
Acts 8 is an excellent example of someone (Simon) who was not humble. He was a former sorcerer that gave his life to the Lord. This was a man that had the attention and adulation of all the Samaritan people for years. He was the man!!! After he gave his life to the Lord he saw the apostles do great miracles and wanted to buy their gift. Peter’s response was as follows:
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. (Acts 8:20-23)
Simon was not humble, and he was rebuked by Peter for thinking that he could buy the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? (Hebrews 2:4)
You can not buy, manipulate, or cleverly talk your way into receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit knows your heart and you must be humble to receive any gift of the Holy Spirit from God. They are given by the will of the Holy Spirit (who is God)!!!
Be humble!!!!
