Scripture for the Day – May 28, 2019
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: (1 Corinthians 2:4)
We live in a period of time where we have some great orators in some very large Churches but very little demonstration of the Spirit and power. Why is that? The Apostle Paul called it enticing words of man’s wisdom. Enticing in the Greek (peithos) means convincing, persuasive, or to make a friend.
I remember a time that I call an “Oh my God it’s real time” that changed my life forever. As I read the scriptures I see those type of situations happening over and over again to people that were not even expecting it.
Simon (Peter) experienced a miraculous catch of fish. The Apostle Paul was going to Damascus to persecute Christians when Jesus knocked him to the ground and he was blinded for three days which was the beginning of Paul’s conversion. The beggar at the gate called “Beautiful” was unexpectedly healed by Peter and John. We could go on and on about miracles that changed people’s lives forever.
Now, we can try to explain all those type miracles not happening today by using religious doctrines but maybe that is the very reason we do not see those type miracles anymore. I was one of those skeptics at one time. I saw too many phony Christians that went to church on Sunday and lived like hell the rest of the week. But, when I saw the real power and anointing of God displayed, things changed for me. I had that “Oh my God it’s real time” and I have never turned back. It’s just something about seeing a person saved, or healed, or filled with the Holy Spirit, or delivered from demons, that solidifies the miraculous in your very being.
We are not talking about something that is unusual, abnormal, or something that happens only with certain Christians. We are talking about something that should be a regular occurrence with ministers of the Gospel.
And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. (Mark 16:20)
Do you see that? Jesus confirmed His Word with signs following. That is how the Lord says to us that this is real. We need to see more of that in the Church! We need to expect it! It’s like God’s validation stamp and I am not talking about pumping people up into an excited frenzy. I am talking about the real power and anointing of God that will put you on your face in awe and worship. I am talking about the glory and goodness of the Lord that carries with it healing and deliverance.
Lord, we need your power back in our Churches and in every meeting where we are allowed to speak your Word. We need your presence and anointing. I pray for your visitation on all your ministers Lord that when they preach and teach your Word it will be with power and demonstration. We need your healing Lord!!! We need your anointing!!! We need your presence and power Lord!!!
