Scripture for the Day (May 29, 2015)

Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all mere rubbish, in order that I may win (gain) Christ (the Anointed One). (Philippians 3:8, Amplified Bible)

Some of you are aware that I have been an avid bass fisherman since I was a young boy. In South Georgia you have to know someone to fish on their property, unless you belong to a pay to fish club. As a young man, I fished with my father on Tallassee Plantation for years until they sold it. Once they sold it we did not know anyone on the new owner’s staff so we have not fished that property for a very long time. We were recently in our local dentist office and we were talking about fishing and one of the nurses mentioned that her son was one of the overseers at this same plantation and he could get us on to fish. Hallelujah, a divine dentist appointment!!

It’s about who you know and who knows you. That works in our every-day world and it is especially crucial in our spiritual world. If you really know Jesus (born again) then all kinds of benefits and doors are open to you. The word used for salvation in the Greek is “soteria” which means save, preserve, rescue, deliver, health. Doors to all these benefits and more are open to you based on you knowing Him and Him knowing you.

But if any man love God the same is known of him. (I Corinthians 8:3)

If you read the story in Acts 19:11-18 about the seven sons of Sceva trying to cast out a demon in the name of Jesus, without knowing Jesus, you will quickly see how important it is to know Jesus. The demon overcame the seven sons and they all fled naked and wounded. The demon said something very revealing in that confrontation. The demon said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?”It wasn’t just Jesus that the demon knew. He also knew Paul, a born again, spirit filled believer. Paul had the authority to cast out the demon due to his relationship with Jesus but the sons of Sceva had no such relationship or authority. They did not “know” Jesus and were therefore unsuccessful in their fight with the demon.

Do you know Jesus? Does He know you? In an altercation with a demon would the demon know your name? Think about it.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working
of his mighty power, (Ephesians 1:17-19)

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:3)
