Scripture for the Day March 20, 2019
For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)
Have you ever felt down or depressed? Have you ever felt like you just did not measure up? Have you ever felt like every way you turned the world was just beating you down and rejecting you? I know those are crazy questions because I know that we have all felt that way at some point in our lives. None of us are exempt from feeling down at times.
Well, here is what I do in those times. I read the Word of God and remind myself of whom I am in Christ Jesus. I remind myself of who the Word of God says I really am. I remind myself that I am in this world but I am not of this world. This world is not my real home and I cannot let it define me or get me down. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
The Word of God is filled with reminders of who we are as believers. Sometimes it’s good to be reminded of some of those reminders. The following are just a few examples:
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9, ESV)
God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:1)
So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are a son, then you are also an heir through God (Galatians 4:7).
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, ESV)
Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4, ESV)
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37, ESV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7, ESV)
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16, ESV)
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6, ESV)
