Scripture of The Day 2/9/2022

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream, it does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to be fruit.
(Jeremiah 17:8)

I got a card from a friend today and it had a picture of a tree with leaves all over it and the caption said, “I’m rooting for you.”

She had no idea that God was speaking to me about roots and fruits . It is getting close to spring time and I love to plant flowers. However, I have learned which ones I can grow and which ones I kill. My husband used to say , “If flowers could talk and they saw you coming, they would scream, no, no, not her house!” I love digging in the dirt, but I am not really very good at growing things.

In the south plants have to have a strong root system in order to handle our hot humid weather. Like plants you and I need deep roots in order to handle this crazy world we live in. How do we develop our root system? Our root system is God’s Word. In Matthew 7:24 the Bible talks about everyone who hears God’s Words and does them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. When the winds and storms come that house will stand.

Our root system in God’s Word not only causes us to stand firm in the middle of a crazy world, but that Word will bear fruit in us and in others. What do you mean you may ask? Fruit is what is produced when we walk out the Word. For example, a strong marriage, children who love the Lord, Galatians says the fruit of the Spirit is love, pace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. When you exhibit these qualities people want to be around you and they want what you have. Then the great thing is you get to share the Lord and the Gospel with others. That is fruit that remains!

I encourage you to let your roots go deep. Stay in God’s Word, fill up your tank and take it to the world you live in!
