Scripture of The Day 7/14/2022

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him and said concerning him, See!  Here is an Israelite indeed [a true descendant of Jacob], in whom there is no guile nor deceit nor falsehood not duplicity!  John 1:47

In some instances I think we need to open our minds. I think we should be single-minded (focused on the will of God), but not narrow-minded (unwilling to be open to new teachings).

I love the story about Nathanael. (John 1:45-51)

Jesus had some very complimentary things to say about him. He first comes on the scene when Philip tells him that they have found the Messiah and he was Jesus of Nazareth. Nathanael’s response was, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” (V. 46) He was sure that no Messiah would come out of a town like Nazareth. Philip replied, “Come and see!” In other words, don’t make a judgement before you’ve seen for yourself. So Nathanael went to see.

I think one of the reasons Jesus liked Nathanael was because even though he had a preconceived opinion that nothing good could come out of Nazareth, he was open minded enough and humble enough to at least go see. It would seem to me that a lot of us would get a lot further in our walk with the God if we wouldn’t have so many preconceived ideas. What we really need to do is believe God’s Word.

I encourage you to read your Bible and see what it says. Be open to letting God teach you and to learning. It is amazing what we could learn from God and other people He places in our path if we didn’t think we knew it all.
