Scripture of The Day
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words. (Proverbs 18:21, Amplified Bible)
I know we have covered this subject many times, but I think we need a refresher. The world around us speaks angry words, hateful words, critical words, condemning words. As men and women of God our words should be different. They should be full of life!
We know that we will be held accountable for every idle word. The word idle means, empty, rhetoric or insincere or exaggerated talk. In the New Testament “idle” generally renders the Greek word argos, literally, “inactive,” “useless” Matthew 20:3,6 . I know that when Jesus was on the earth He said, ….”I speak by the authority of the Father himself who sent me, and who instructed me what to say.” (John 12:49) The Passion
I want to encourage you and myself to say what God says. Resist the urge to be critical. Speak life! Speak blessings.
A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath, But harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger.
(Proverbs 15:1, Amplified Bible)
The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
(Proverbs 17:27, NIV)
Words really do matter!
