The plans of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man, but from the Lord come the {wise} answer of the tongue. (Proverbs 16:1)
I don’t know about you, but there have been times when I wasn’t sure that I believed or trusted that the direction I was going was what I heard from the Lord. It wasn’t that I did not believe or trust the Lord, I just did not trust my ability to hear Him.
Learning to be led by the Holy Spirit comes from experience. My experience is that if I think I have heard Him then I need to move on what I thought I heard. Joyce Meyer puts it like this, “step out and find out.” Then I would think, “what if I messed up?” Don’t you know that if you mess up your Father will put you back on track. And the next time the Holy Spirit speaks you will be better at hearing Him. It is a process of learning to be led by God.
One thing is for sure, the more time you spend with Him the more you will recognize His voice. I have always loved the scripture in James that reminds us that if any of us need wisdom, all we have to do is ask and God will give it to us liberally. However, when we ask we must ask in Faith, no wavering, hesitating, or doubting. For the one who wavers, (hesitates or doubts) is like a billowing surge out at sea that is blown to and from and tossed by the wind.
So here’s the deal…If you are having trouble and need wisdom, ask God. His wisdom is divine and beyond your natural knowing. Just remember, learning to hear God is a process. If you fall down, it’s OK. He will pick you up!
