Scripture of The Day 3/16/2022
Thus far hath the Lord helped us. ( I Samuel 7:12)

Over the many years Ed and I served the Lord, we established what I will call Landmarks. These are places in our lives where we are reminded of how God brought us through.

When God miraculously opened the Jordan River for the Israelites to pass over, He knew something they didn’t- that soon they would come up against Jericho, their biggest battle.  That is when they would need reminders and a reference point. So He told them to collect 13 stones from the Jordan and build a memorial.  This would act as a reminder of His past faithfulness. God was saying, “When you can’t cope with the future, check with the past.  My goodness will stand inventory.”  Samuel did the same thing after Israel defeated the Philistines.  He  took a stone and named it Ebenezer saying, “Thus far hath the Lord helped us.”

Think of some of the landmarks in your life “thus far.” Like the day you met Jesus; or other specific instances where He guided you; or doors He opened that you thought were permanently shut; or other instances where He brought you through.  Write them down and keep that journal where you can look back and be reminded of how He has protected you, taken care of you, and brought you out of things that were impossible.  They are important, because they will remind you of His goodness, even when you were not aware if it. They will give you a sense of gratitude for yesterday’s blessings and a confidence to face whatever tomorrow brings!
