Scripture of The Day
For you shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. (Isaiah 55:12)
There is a quote by Mark Twain that has always gotten my attention. “The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why you were born.” I love sharing with others that when they find their purpose in life and the day they tap into those God-given gifts to help them carry out that purpose, it’s not really work anymore.
I am reminded of the story that my friend Chris Musgrove told me. He said that right after he shared his testimony in a school auditorium , a teacher at the school came up to him with tears in his eyes and said that Chris was telling his story. He said a few years before that he was a police officer and although he didn’t hate his job he felt unfulfilled. He believed he was supposed to be a school teacher and his wife agreed that is what he should do. When he approached his parents and his wife’s parents with the idea they shut it down. They said he had no business going back to school to be a teacher. He had responsibilities to his wife and kids and he had neither the time nor the finances to go back to school. Fortunately his wife believed in him enough to take a job and support her husband in this. He went back to school and became a teacher.
He declared to me that he couldn’t wait to get up every morning to get to that school to be with those students. He was gifted and graced by God to be an educator and he loved every minute of it. I meet people all the time that hate life. They don’t like what they do, they don’t like where they do it, and they don’t even like the people they’re doing it with. It doesn’t have to be that way! Proverbs 18:16: Your gift will make room for you and bring you before great men. God does have a plan for you and he wants you doing that plan. Jeremiah 29:11: I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Ephesians 2:10: For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. It’s never too late to find out what your gifting and purpose is; to find out why you were born. Until you do, you’re just working and not enjoying the journey.
