Scripture of The Day
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. (John 1:1-2) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
It’s so easy for all of us to get caught up in wanting people to like us and hear us. It’s so easy for all of us to get too impressed with ourselves. We get offended so easily if we don’t think we are appreciated like we think we should be. That can happen in our career world, our social world, as well as our church world. Let me tell you a personal story. My wife and I have been in ministry for 36 years. God has led us all over the world and provided for us at every turn. As a result, we have gained a lot of wisdom and we have a lot of Word stored in us. I had to repent recently because I caught myself trying to fit into a religious box where I am not called to fit. I know what my wife and I are called to do and when we start wandering away from that calling things do not go well. Anytime you start thinking that some people just don’t realize who you are, it is time to repent because without Jesus none of us are anything. It all boils down to pride. So, I repented and told God that the only thing that matters to me is my personal relationship with Him. As long as He is still talking to me, everything is fine. Once you have heard God speak, then all the other voices (in comparison) are just noise.
Please listen to this song by Mercy Me entitled “Word of God Speak” which touches on this very subject. Remember, this is a famous songwriter at loss for words. That would bother a lot of famous songwriters but not this guy.
