Scripture of The Day
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. (Exodus 14:15-16)
Our scripture of the day reminds me of some of the times the Lord has said to us, “You do it!” Moses was crying out to the Lord when he was at the red sea. I wonder how many times I have done that? Wanting God to do something and He is waiting on me to act on what I know. Another story is in Luke 9:13-17 when there were over 5000 people who were hungry and the disciples went to Jesus and Jesus said, “You feed them.”
I think that Jesus was trying to teach them the lesson that when God asks you to do something, he’s not asking you to do it in your own strength. Jesus really did want the disciples to feed the 5000 – as we will see when Jesus gives the food to them to then give to the people – but he also wanted them to use His power to do it. You see, according to the Gospels, a large crowd had gathered and was following Jesus. Jesus called his disciples to him and said: “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”
When you feel that kind of compassion, it is time for you to step up and you do it! Do What? Whatever it takes to minister to others. Don’t just tell someone you will pray for them, stop right then and you do it! Don’t wonder if someone is saved, ask them if they know Jesus and are sure they are going to Heaven, if they are not sure, you lead them in a prayer of salvation. You do it! Don’t wait on someone else. Remember, when you step up to walk in what you know, Jesus will meet you and His power is made perfect in your weakness.
