And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be ye thankful. (Colossians 3:15)
In a world where there seems to be a lot of chaos, busyness, work, and more work, family issues, money issues, and financial issues, how in the world do we find peace? Peace can only come from the Prince of Peace, that is Jesus. For me, peace comes when I completely trust God and His Word. The world doesn’t offer much real peace. God’s Word promises peace. All you and I have to do is to allow God’s peace, which passes all understanding, to rule in our hearts. We have to “let” it.
Since Ed went to Heaven I have had many chances to get worried, fearful, and anxious. However, Philippians 4:6-7 says to be anxious for nothing. It is my discipline to “let” peace rule in my heart. I know many people who look peaceful on the outside but are a mess inside. When I find myself in a mess then I know it’s time that I need to get in my “secret place” with the Lord and pray, read His Word, and allow that sweet peace to come in and fill my heart. Paul told us that the peace of God would guard our hearts and minds. The use of the word “guard” implies a garrison or protective force that stops the destructive forces of fear, anxiety, and confusion.
As we move forward let’s allow the peace of God to be the umpire of our lives. Let’s let peace call the balls and strikes. Let’s let peace say whether a decision is safe or out. Let’s let peace direct the game of our lives. They call Him Jehovah Shalom, God our peace.
