Scripture of The Day

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able to perform.         (Romans 4:21 )

I have always loved the story of Abraham and Sarah. He is called the father of faith. His faith was reckoned to him for righteousness. What an amazing man!  I am not saying he did everything right, but he was God’s man.  From the beginning when God called Abraham to leave his country, family, and all he had ever known, he obeyed. God promised him that He would show him the land he was to go to, make him a great nation, and bless him. God even told Abraham that in him would all families of the earth be blessed. (Genesis 12:2)

Abraham just got up and went. He did not stagger, doubt, or complain, he just went, not even knowing where he was going… Not sure I would have done that!  There is a lot to be said of Abraham, but what impresses me most is in Romans 4:18-21. God made a promise to Abraham to give him a son. Even though he and Sarah were way beyond having children. Abraham still believed. The scripture says that against hope he believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, so shall your seed be. The scripture says he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith giving glory to God. And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

I want to be like Abraham! I do not want to stagger at the promises of God. I don’t want to reason things away. Verse 23, from the Passion Bible, says, “And this declaration was not just spoken over Abraham, but also over us. For when we believe and embrace the one who brought our Lord Jesus back to life, perfect righteousness will be credited to our account as well…”  Wow! Did you get it? God was not just showing Abraham but us too that our faith is powerful. Especially when we stagger not and when we are fully persuaded!

We know that without faith it is impossible to please God. We know that everyone has been given a measure of faith. It is our responsibility to develop that faith.  We do it by reading and knowing God’s Word. By knowing the promises He has given us and by believing God’s Word more than what we see or feel.  Let’s be fully persuaded today!!
