Lazarus and his sisters invited Jesus to dinner. (John 12:2) TM
After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, we read that, “Lazarus and his sisters invited Jesus to dinner.” Martha served, Mary anointed Jesus’ feet and Lazarus talked to the guests. Such a mix of people and personalities. Notice: there’s room at Gods’ table for all kinds of people.
Check it out, Martha is the one who stays in the background with her sleeves rolled up making sure everyone has been fed and watered. Those who are Martha’s rarely seek the spotlight. Sometime we do not appreciate them, until they are missing! Martha’s tend to make the mission more important than the Master. Those who are like Martha need to remember that worship is also service.
Now Mary and those like her forget there are bills to be paid and meals to prepare. They’re sometimes so heavenly minded that they’re no earthly use. They need to realize that service is worship too. However we need Mary’s. They bring passion to our worship and you can always count on them to pray and intercede.
Lazarus is the guy they all flocked to see, the man Jesus raised from the dead. Because of him, many believed in Jesus! His testimony was so powerful that when people heard it they instantly became converts. He reminds us that we all have a story to tell. When was the last time you told yours?
So today, if you are a Martha, God sees your labor of love. If you’re a Mary, He delights in your worship. And if you are a Lazarus, He promises to honor your testimony. There’s room at the table for all of us!
