Scripture for the Day
January 1, 2021
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19)
The New Year of 2021 is here. We have a brand new year to make a difference in our world and in the lives of others. What has God called you to do? Can you see it? Could you miss it? Let’s look closely at the scripture in Isaiah 43:19. The prophet Isaiah is prophesying that God is about to do a new thing and he indicates by his words that if we are not careful we could miss it when he says, “shall ye not know it?” How is that possible? Here are a few reasons for that possibility: He said God would make a way in the wilderness. No one wants to go to or through the wilderness. We would rather go to a place that is already prosperous. He said God would make rivers in the desert. No one wants to go to the desert. It’s just too much trouble to find water. We would rather go where there is already a plenteous supply.
I want you to envision a farm. What do you see? Fields of crops bearing fruit? A beautiful fenced property with roads cut through the fields? Well, that’s nice, but now I want you to look at that same farm before it was ever cleared. Someone had to put in years of work to get that farm to the place where it was producing crops. They cleared the land, removed the stumps and trees, plowed the ground, and worked for years before it became prosperous. I am reminded of the scripture God gave us when He first called us into the ministry. We spent many years going into prisons and small country churches before we ever ministered to a large group of business people. Those years we spent going into those desert and dry places were wonderful years. Sometimes you are actually more appreciated and loved in those places than the larger places. What I am trying to say is this. Do not forget the dry and barren places in 2021. If you look at everything in the natural, you could miss what God wants you to do.
The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God. Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. (Isaiah 35:1-6)
Remember, two-thirds of God’s name is Go! All we are required to do is go and minister. He is responsible for the miracles.
