Scripture for the Day – July 14, 2020

Ephesians 6:13-17: Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Every piece of the armor of God is connected to the Word of God. That’s because you can’t separate God from His Word. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

First is the girdle of truth. It is important because it holds the rest of the armor in place like a soldier’s belt. The girdle or belt represents having a clear understanding of truth (the Word of God). John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

Second is the breastplate of righteousness. Hebrews 5:13 says, “For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.” II Timothy 3:16 says, “All scripture is given for instruction in righteousness.” Jesus is called the Word of God. He is our righteousness, and Romans 13:14 instructs us to put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Third are the shoes of the gospel of peace. Romans 10:15: And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Fourth is the shield of faith. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” II Corinthians 10:5 says, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (God’s Word), and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

Fifth is the helmet of salvation. I Thessalonians 5:8 says, “Putting on as a helmet the hope of salvation.” Colossians 1:22-23 says, “Not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven.”

Sixth is the sword of the Spirit. Ephesians 6:17 says, “Which is the word of God.” All other parts of the armor are mainly for protection or defense. The sword of the Spirit is to be used offensively against the enemy.

Seventh is praying in the Spirit with all supplication which is an offensive and defensive piece of your armor. Ephesians 6:18 says, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Most people overlook this seventh piece. The number six represents man. Man was created on the sixth day. The number for Satan’s followers in the end times is 666 which stands for man trying to be like the Trinity (God). The number seven stands for perfection or completion.

With the whole armor of God on, we have all the equipment we need to fight and overcome the enemy.
