A Nugget from New Life Network

Scripture for the Day (June 11, 2015)

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver and gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. (I Peter 1:18-19, NIV)

I recently heard a song (with an inspirational intro by the artist Big Daddy Weave) that made me cry and do some serious reflection. The name of the song is “Redeemed”.

Some of us were not the most popular in high school, were not brought up in a perfect loving atmosphere, did not have a great body or perfect complexion, were picked on or bullied, did not always make the right decisions, and were not always told positive things. All of those past experiences can be chains that hold us back and constantly remind us of who we were rather than who we are now as the Redeemed of the Lord.

The following are the lyrics of this song that will serve as our devotional today. You can listen to this song and intro at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECV7op7Xg8k.

Redeemed (by Big Daddy Weave)

Seems like all I can see was the struggle

Haunted by ghosts that lived in my past

Bound up in shackles of all my failures

Wondering how long is this gonna last

Then You look at this prisoner and say to me “son

Stop fighting a fight that’s already been won”

I am redeemed, You set me free

So I’ll shake off these heavy chains

Wipe away every stain now I’m not who I used to be

I am redeemed

All my life I have been called unworthy

Named by the voice of my shame and regret

But when I hear You whisper, “Child lift up your head”

I remember oh God, You’re not done with me yet

I don’t have to be the old man inside of me’Cause his day is long dead and gone

I’ve got a new name, a new life I’m not the same

And a hope that will carry me home

I am redeemed, You set me free

So I’ll shake off these heavy chains

Wipe away every stain now I’m not who I used to be

Oh God I’m not who I used to be

Jesus I’m not who I used to be’Cause I am redeemed

Thank God, redeemed

But, ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
(Psalm 1:3)
