Scripture for the Day – December 13, 2019

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: (Ephesians 1:17)

After our last devotional on revelation, some people may be asking the following questions. What does revelation look like? How does one get revelation? Is revelation just reserved for certain people? The following are several scriptures that provide some answers to those questions:

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6)

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8)

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matthew 7:11)

What I have found over the years is that revelation is given to the hungry and thirsty; the ones that seek and knock; and the ones that ask. It is given to the ones that have saturated themselves with the Word. It is given to the ones that thirst after God. That all means that the ground around the cross is level. Education and intellect are not qualifying factors. You can have a doctorate in Theology and have no revelation at all. There are clergy all over this country that are not born-again. They know and follow the doctrines of their particular denomination, but they do not really know Jesus and that is very sad.

God is constantly looking for the hungry. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. (2 Chronicles 16:9)

Revelation can come in many different ways. The most common way is for God to light-up a scripture to you and give you an understanding of that scripture that you would have never known otherwise. Revelation can come through a spiritual gift (such as a word of knowledge) from another person. In most cases, when that happens it will serve as a conformation on something the Lord has already been dealing with you on. Revelation can come through a direct word from God that you hear (usually in your Spirit). In my experience, when that happens, the revelation is so simple (but profound) that you sit back in awe asking yourself, why did I not ever think about that?

Please remember, our God is not in a box. The ways He can reveal things to us are limitless. He could speak to you through a sermon or a song. He could speak to you through a child or an elder. He could speak to you through a tragedy or through a blessing. We just need to stay in a hungry and seeking mode and know that God wants to speak to us. Ask
Him!!!

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5)
