I used to jog quite a bit. I’ve run literally hundreds of 5K’s, 10K’s, and half marathons. However, I have only completed the marathon distance (26.2 miles) 3 times. I loved running, and it is hard to
explain to someone who has never really jogged any distance before. Most people will say they run around the track at a local high school or do a 3 to 5 mile run in the neighborhood. I certainly commend that effort, and I wished I could still do it, I miss it a lot. But one thing I will say is, the first mile is the hardest, not until you break a sweat and get into a rhythm with your breathing and pace will it feel good. If I were to succeed in becoming a ‘runner/jogger’ I had to be straight forward and honest with myself about my ability and realize my human imperfection. I had to know where I am before I knew where I was going.
This same scenario can be applied to our spiritual progress. I have an ambition to proceed and succeed. Philippians 3:14 (21st Century King James Version) “I press toward the mark for the
prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. I am still growing, seeking spiritual maturity. In doing so, I have realized that I cannot be manipulated by the past, but I must forget what is behind me. Forgetting and forgiving creates a new thing. Isaiah 43:19 KJV “Behold I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” As a former smoker, now jogger, this new thing caused me to make goals, and prioritize with determination. I was and am focused on the future. I will make a goal to please God, and fight to the finish.
Nothing worthwhile in life happens without effort. Quitters never win, and winners never quit. I encourage you to “Fight the good fight (with endurance) of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to
which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1st Timothy 6:12 NIV Even youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly. But those who wait for the Lord (who expect and look for, and hope in Him) will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings (and rise up close to God) like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, they will walk and not grow tired.” Isaiah 40:30-31 Amplified Bible
Press On beloved; I have called you by name. I have called you to give you my name, and my name is Yahweh.
