This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to him…. (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
When my youngest son was about 4 or 5 years old he came home from church and said, “Mommy, I learned a new song at church today.” Then he began to sing it to me. “Shut the door, keep the devil in the night….Shut the door keep out the devil.” I thought it was so cute. However, those words have become very important to my walk with the Lord. The scripture tells us that we have a choice, life or death, blessings, or curses. We also have an enemy who is a master deceiver. He can make the wrong thing look so good. Just ask Eve.
We have many doors in our lives and we can choose which ones we open. One of the ways I choose which door to open is to line it up with the Word, then I take a pause, and I pray for discernment. I look down the road to see what the consequences of this choice might be. Does it bring forth life or death? Will things be better or worse, will this affect others in my life? A very successful businessman I know uses the following principles in his business. They came straight from the Word.
1. Don’t get in a hurry.
2. Don’t panic.
3. Don’t get greedy.
4. Choose wisely.
I encourage you today to shut the doors in your life where the enemy can come in. Don’t even leave the smallest crack. Genesis 4:7 says that sin crouches at the door and his desire is to rule over you. Choose Jesus and His way of doing things every minute of every day.
