Scripture of The Day
September 2, 2021

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. (Colossians 4:5-6, ESV)

By Ed Henderson (2015)

The enemy attempted to silence the Lamb of God from birth to crucifixion. He has continued that silencing campaign (unsuccessfully I may add) from the Apostles to current-day Christians. Entire nations have attempted to ban the Gospel but it just can’t be done. For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. (Habakkuk 2:14). Like a flood, it will come through even the smallest crack around the doors and windows. Consider the following scriptures:

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. (Matthew 2:16)

And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place. (Luke 23:5)

And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. (Acts 4:18-20)

Why is this silencing campaign so important to our enemy that he would resort to killing babies, crucifying men and enacting national laws? The simple truth is found in the supernatural power of the scriptures. They can change a man’s/woman’s heart!  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)

For the word of God is quick (alive), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

We live in a time where political correctness is now the current label used to basically disguise the same old silencing campaign. We overcome this campaign the same way we have always overcome, by love. God is love and everything we do and say should come from a heart of love but it may not always sound like that to the hearer. Jesus did not always sound loving when He spoke to the Pharisees, his disciples, or his own family. The truth can be hard to swallow at times, but that doesn’t mean we should stop speaking it.

The following scripture is good for testing our words before they come out of our mouth. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1). As a Christian, we have a promise of no condemnation so just make sure our words pay that forward with no condemnation to others. This scripture will help check the motive of our heart and help keep the words out of our mouth from being hateful.
