Scripture for the Day – April 14, 2020

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. (Luke 2:20)

When I was called into the ministry, I argued with God. I was very shy and had never given a speech before, much less a sermon. I had not been to seminary or Bible College so I told God He must be mistaken because I had none of the required credentials or skills. After laying out all my arguments the Lord gave me this scripture.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. (Philippians 4:9)

That was a life changing scripture for me. It was like God was saying to me that all those credentials did not matter. He would give me the words to speak and the sermons to preach just by me paying attention to what I would hear and see in His word and what I would hear and see Him do. That is what I have done for 39 years of ministry and I have never run out of things to share or preach about.

It wasn’t until much later that I learned that this is one of God’s simple ways of encouragement, wisdom, and evangelism. Listen to the following scriptures.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. (Luke 2:20)

Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. (Luke 7:22)

For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. (Acts 4:20)

For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. (Acts 22:15)

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. (1 John 1-3)

Don’t let anyone tell you that you are not qualified or that it is politically incorrect to speak about Jesus. Just pay attention to the things you hear and see in Him and you will have plenty to say. You do not need a degree to speak about our Lord.
