Scripture for the Day – June 22, 2020
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. (Matthew 26:36)
Lately, I’ve been really trying to make sure I have my own personal time with God. I’ve realized that starting your day with God makes your day, so I’ve been setting aside time each day to spend with Him. It is so easy to get caught up in the busyness of our everyday lives, that we don’t have enough time to spend with God. I’ve made plenty of excuses, but I’ve come to realize that if I want to have a growing relationship with Him, then I have to put forth the effort.
According to James 4:8, if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. So that means it starts with us! In Hebrews 4:16 it says, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. “
Most of the time we are trying to figure out how we are going to get things done or how we will resolve our own problems. But if we would just seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all these things will be added to us. (Matthew 6:33)
I remember one Saturday morning I didn’t have to be up until 8 am, so I set my alarm for 7:50, giving myself ten minutes to wake up. Strangely enough, I woke up at 6:55 am with no alarm going off. I quickly looked at my phone and thought, “I’m going to sleep 30 minutes, then I’ll wake up.” When I first woke up I thought about getting into God’s Word since I was already awake, but when I thought about the extra sleep, I put it off. I tried to fall back asleep and I couldn’t. I was restless. So I got up turned on the light and opened my Bible. The very first verse I laid my eyes on was Song of Solomon 5:2, “I slept, but my heart was awake. A sound my beloved was knocking.” After reading that verse, there was no doubt in mind that God was trying to wake me up to spend time with Him.
Psalms 63:1 says, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you.” The more we spend time with God, the less you will have to try. No longer will it be something you have to do each day. It will become something you can’t go a day without. You will desire to spend time with Him — Just like David did in the verse above.
Jeremiah 29:13-14 says, “You will seek me and find me. When you seek me with all of your heart, I will be found by you, declares the Lord.” God desires to know us, and we can get as close to God as we desire. Also, we can’t become like God apart from His presence. We need to prioritize our lives. If God doesn’t come first in our lives, then our priorities are already wrong.
Make sure you make a point to spend each morning you have with God; it makes all the difference in your day.
