It seems that we are meeting more and more people that have adopted a “cave mentality”. They have been hurt and disappointed by business leaders, politicians, family members, and even Pastors and religious leaders. As a result, they have backed away from getting involved and have retreated to their cave.
Those caves could take on many shapes and forms. For example, it could be a home based working position that just requires fellowship with a computer, or, on the extreme end, it could be a total recluse type situation such as in the powerful Prophet Elijah’s case where he hid in a cave fearing for his life (1 Kings 19:9).
The same question that God asked of Elijah is still being asked of us today. “What are you doing here?”
The root of this type behavior is usually rejection, hurt, bitterness, unforgiveness, pride or fear. We do not want to deal with the hurt and disappointment, and we are fearful of being hurt again, so we just go to our cave. We isolate ourselves.
Most of the people that we see doing this are very smart, talented, and anointed men and women. They have a powerful calling on their lives and the enemy has lied to them which has effectively placed them on the sidelines and out of the game.
The lies of the enemy have not changed over the years. He will play to your pride and tell you that you are the only one out there that does things right. All the rest are liars and schemers so the best thing to do is go to your cave. That is a lie!! God always has more people out there that have not bowed their knee to the enemy than you know about (read 1 Kings 19:13-18).
God wants and needs you to stay in the game! Jesus was constantly dealing and fellowshipping with sinners so why would you think we get a pass. You are called to go ye into all the World! You are in this World but not of this World! How are they going to know the truth without a preacher?
My wife and I can relate to the hurt, pain and rejection. After 28 years in business and 33 years in the ministry we have been ridiculed and rejected by the best of them. Take heart, they lied about and rejected Jesus, so you and I are in good company.
If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you. (John 15:18, AMPC)
This is why forgiveness is so important. It keeps you in the game and not on the sidelines. It requires you to humble yourself and not think more highly of yourself than you ought. There is no person that has ever been rejected without cause more than Jesus and some of His last words were, “forgive them Lord”. That was not an accident. He was trying to show us how to stay in the game.
We encourage all of you today to lay down whatever hurt and bitterness you are holding onto. Forgive, forgive, forgive!!! God needs you back in the game. God needs your talent, your anointing, and your heart. Kick the enemy in the butt and return to the fight. You can do this!!!
