Scripture for the Day (June 19, 2015)

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (Luke 12:32)

As I sit here today thinking about my earthly father I am reminded of how hard he worked to provide for his family. I am reminded of the fun we had in our home because he was the biggest kid of all. He was such an encourager to me. He always told me I could do anything I set my mind to do. I am truly thankful for him and all that he imparted to me during his lifetime.

God knew just exactly what He was doing when he set up the family. The father is so important to the well being of the home. The father brings security, provision, order, discipline, wisdom, decision making and overall care to the family. I am truly thankful for my father. Now don’t get me wrong, my father was not perfect and he did not always do things right, but he was Dad and all five of us kids loved him with all of our hearts.

I look back over the last 48 years of marriage thinking about my husband and all he has done for our family. He has worked hard to provide, he has brought a sense of security to our home, he has imparted wisdom to our three sons, he has made hard decisions when he had to and he has studied God’s Word and lived by that Word in front of his children. I am truly thankful for my husband and the father he is.

I realize that not everyone has had the same experience with their father and their husband. Not every man steps up to the plate and accepts the role of father and participates in the family as he should. No matter what your experience has been with your earthly father I want to encourage you that your heavenly father has never forgotten you. He loves you with an everlasting love and He is concerned about the things that concern you!

If you are married, tell your husband how much you appreciate him. Tell him what a great dad he is. Thank him for providing for the family. Pray for him! Give him grace in the areas where he is lacking. Don’t take him for granted. It is not easy being a husband or a father. As you enjoy celebrating Father’s Day this Sunday be reminded of your heavenly Father and how much you are loved.

Let us be about our Father’s business. (Luke 2:49)

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. (John 10:29)

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:3)
