Scripture for the Day (December 10, 2018)

Luke 4:18-19: The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.

Jesus was anointed by the Spirit of God and the good news is we can receive that same anointing. Why would the Son of God need to be anointed? Jesus was the Son of God but he ministered as the Son of Man. He laid aside his heavenly glory when he came to earth as a man.

Philippians 2:7-8 says, “But made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!”

The Weymouth New Testament says, “Nay, He stripped Himself of His glory, and took on Him the nature of a bondservant by becoming a man like other men.”

Jesus ministered as a man even though he was the Son of God. If Jesus would have been ministering as the Son of God He wouldn’t have needed to be anointed. Jesus never worked a miracle and never healed the sick until after he was baptized by John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit. In fact, the first miracle Jesus performed was at the wedding at Cana where he turned the water into wine. That was right after he was anointed.

Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

As men and women of God, we can also be anointed for preaching, teaching, healing, and for signs and wonders.

II Corinthians 1:21 says, “And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us.”

John 14:12 says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”

The only way we can do greater works than Jesus is with the anointing!

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19)

The enemy understands the power of the anointing so put on your armor because this is a war. It’s a war we can win, but it’s still a war.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. (Psalms 2:1-3)

But you have an anointing from the Holy One [you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit], and all of you know [the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error]. (1 John 2:20, Amplified Bible)

And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. (Isaiah 10:27)

Go in God’s anointing!!!
