Scripture for the Day – August 28, 2019

O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 107:1)

I have tried the best I know how to explain and depict the goodness of God in several past devotionals. If you missed these devotionals you can go to our website at newlifenetwork-org-staging.smwnm894-liquidwebsites.com and read what we have previously published in our Media section under Devotionals Archive.

In short, I believe that the “Goodness of God” is one of the most important and critical subjects believers need to come to grips with during this period of history. We do have an enemy (Satan) and he is the father of lies. In fact, He is a very accomplished liar and his lies have infiltrated the doctrines of the Church and the minds of many believers. He has convinced a large portion of the Church that God is not good and that He is the author of everything in the world that goes wrong such as diseases, death, destruction, wars, famines, etc. This type of thinking flies in the face of scripture. It directly contradicts what we see in Jesus, who is the exact representation of the Father. It also creates a lazy theology that puts all the blame on God and eliminates any room for personal responsibility, demonic influence, or spiritual warfare. It basically says that God is in control of everything, good and evil, which directly contradicts the free will that we have been given by God as individuals. What a sweet deal for Satan who is now cleared from all responsibilities and basically deleted from all sermons and teachings.

Listen to what King David had to say about this very subject:

For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. (Psalm 5:4)

To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. (Psalm 92:15)

They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is. (Psalm 38:20)

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! (Psalm 107:8)

Now, listen to a great song by Jenn Johnson of Bethel Music entitled “The Goodness of God”.
