Scripture for the Day (December 5, 2018)
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man. (Ephesians 3:14-16)
There is a key to the glory of God that we so often miss. The key is this: The glory of God is the goodness of God. When Moses wanted to see the glory of God, God said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you” (Exodus 33:19). The Scripture says that Moses saw the goodness of God. Then later Moses saw the glory of God pass by him (Exodus 34:6). That lets us know that the goodness of God is the glory of God.
All the good things that God has for you are in His glory. When a king walks out in his kingly robe with his jewels and crown, surrounded by his servants, people say, “Here comes the king in all of his glory.” What do they mean? They are referring to his abundance.
The Hebrew word for glory is chavod, and that word chavod means weightiness; that which is substantial or heavy; glory; honor; splendor; power; wealth; authority; magnificence; fame; dignity; riches and excellency. The glory of God is goodness. What did Moses see go by? When he saw the glory of God go by, he saw God in all of His goodness.
Jesus talked about the goodness of God, saying, “No one is good but One, that is, God” (Matthew 19:17). The devil, however, wants everyone to think God is not good. Remember, in John 8:44 Jesus said the devil is a liar. The devil always has been and always will be a liar. And he has lied to the church. If Satan can get us to believe his lie, he can destroy God’s work in us.
For instance, much of the church has believed that in order to be holy, glorious, and sanctified, we must be poor. They may not say it like that, but that is the mentality that has been in many people of the church. That thought is not true! It is from the devil–who is a liar! God is good, and He wants to give us abundance. “Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, ‘Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant'” (Psalm 35:27).
When we think about the things that God has for us, we don’t want to limit God. It’s time for no more limits. It’s time to take away the bondage that we have had. God is the God who prospers us. He’s not the one who makes us poor. Satan is the one who makes us poor. Jesus says in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” God is not the one who makes us sick. He says in Psalm 103:3 that it is the Lord who heals all our diseases. He’s not the one who beats us down. Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted, to restore sight to the blind, and to preach the good news to the poor (Luke 4:18). What is good news to somebody who is poor? It is that you don’t have to stay poor! God is the God of abundance. He’s the God of prosperity. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and God will impart His will for your life (Matthew 6:33).
Submit to Him and His plan. His plan is abundance for you!
