Scripture for the Day (August 5, 2015)
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! (Isaiah 52:7)
If I had to recommend only one Old Testament book to read it would probably be Isaiah. Some have called it the Gospel of Isaiah because it has so many exacting prophecies about Jesus. The words of Isaiah were written 700-800 years before Jesus was even born and record in detail His birth and ministry.
For unto us a child is born: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
This book is just so full of scriptures that will lift you up in down times, spark revelation, and give you insight into present world conditions. The following is just one small example:
Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)
One key revelation in these verses is contained in, “they that wait upon the Lord.” Our first impression would be to interpret “wait” as meaning we are to remain still and do nothing until the Lord comes. The beauty about the Word of God, and especially prophetic scripture, is that God is not in a box and is not limited to our English interpretation. The Hebrew word for wait is “qavah” which means to wait (for, on, upon). Hmmm! To wait upon? To be a waiter! I get it now!!!! While we are waiting on the Lord we should serve as a waiter for the Lord!! We are His hands and His feet on this Earth. We are to serve the bread of life to a lost and dying generation. Out of our belly should flow rivers of living water to quench the thirst of desert bound individuals.
I encourage you today to read the Book of Isaiah. The world will point to all kind of supposed prophets. Isaiah is the real deal and the words that he penned contain an anointing from God that is still speaking to us today.
ARISE, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. (Isaiah 60:1-2)
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? (Isaiah 58:6)__________________________________________________________________________________
