Scripture for the Day (November 29, 2018)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and for ever. (Hebrews 13:8)

People say, and certain denominations teach, that signs and wonders and the power of God have been discontinued. First of all, we have no scripture that says that; and secondly, God’s Word would have to pass away for signs and wonders to discontinue. That’s because the Bible says signs and wonders follow the preaching of God’s Word. So, let’s look at scripture together and consider what the Word of God really says about this subject.

The Apostle Paul said this: And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:1-5)

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. (I Corinthians 4:20)

The Great Commission tells us this: Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. (Mark 16:15-18)

Then in Mark 16:20 it says, And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

By the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ. (Romans 15:19)

In Acts 9 there are great examples of signs and wonders drawing people to Jesus. Now it came to pass, as Peter went through all parts of the country, that he also came down to the saints who dwelt in Lydda. There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.” Then he arose immediately. So all who dwelt at Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. (Acts 9:32-35)

Warnings about the Last Days: But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (II Timothy 3:1-5)

Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”

We need to believe and act on everything written in the Bible, without excuse, and leave the results to God!!! The power of God has not passed away!!! We just need to do the Word and believe. Faith without works is dead. When we refrain from praying for the sick, we assure that no miracles of healing will happen. When we quit believing in miracles, no miracles will occur. Maybe that is the reason we see so few super natural healings and miracles in this country. God has not changed!!! Have we???
