Scripture for the Day (November 10, 2015)
Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. (Matthew 22:9)
This parable (Matthew 22:2-14) is very similar to yesterday’s parable about the Great Supper. A king had prepared a wedding feast for his son and had invited many guests and they refused to come. He sent out his servants to tell all the guests that he had prepared a great dinner but they still would not come and they made light of it. Some went their way to their farms and some went their way to their merchandise. They were just too busy with their jobs and possessions. Others treated the King’s servants badly and even slew some of them.
I want you to think about these two parables in light of what God has done and what our responses have been over the years. He sent His servants (Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Evangelists, Teachers) to invite us to His table. He then sent His only begotten Son (Jesus) to personally invite us to His table. That invitation is still open today and what have our responses been?
Well, we have made fun of and killed His servants and we even crucified His Son. Many of you would argue that it wasn’t me that killed Jesus. Just think about that. What do you think would be the response to Jesus today if He walked into your church? What would be your personal response? I will let each of you answer that question on your own. Personally, I think He would be crucified again by the same religious Anti-Christ (anti-anointing) spirit that crucified Him the first time.
This is what the King thought about the situation:
But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. (Matthew 22:7-10)
Now, I am not a doom and gloom preacher. I am not a fire and brimstone preacher. I like to preach the scriptures that promise life and life more abundantly. However, we cannot ignore God’s invitations forever. He is longsuffering, but His Spirit will not always strive with man (Genesis 6:3). At some point we will be held accountable for our decisions.
If you have never made a decision to accept His invitation, we encourage you today to take that step. Forget about what the world is saying and obey your heart. We are on the Internet highway today and we bid you all to come to the marriage feast.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
For many are called, but few are chosen. (Matthew 2:14)
