Scripture for the Day (October 28, 2015)
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? (Matthew 13:24-27)
This parable can be considered a prophetic look at the big picture from Genesis to Revelation, and it is that. But, it can also teach us about our enemy and how he operates.
The householder (owner of the field) sowed good seed into a field. In the night an enemy came and sowed tares into the same field. When the blades started to push through the ground the servants noticed that there were tares mixed with the wheat. They immediately asked the owner if he sowed good seed. It is very important to note that the servants’ first thoughts were that the owner must have used bad seed. It never dawned on them that an enemy might have been the culprit. This same thought process is still with us today, just in a lot larger measure. We have millions of people today that don’t have a clue what’s happening in the Spirit realm. They don’t even know there be such a thing as a Satan.
Jesus used many of the parables to teach his disciples how the enemy works. The parable just before this parable was the parable of the sower. That parable clearly shows how the enemy comes immediately to steal the seed (which is the Word of God) that is sown.
Let’s look at a couple of ways the enemy is able to do his dirty work. He is a deceiver and a liar. He knows the Word of God and he will twist it and manipulate it to his advantage in order for the Word to become ineffective in your life. Here are just two examples:
1. There are a multitude of scriptures where God has told us that He wants us to prosper and be successful. Satan knows if you ever latch on to those scriptures he’s in trouble. He can not change the Word of God so he will sow a tare such as ,”money is the root of all evil”. How many times have you heard that quoted, even by preachers? The only problem is, God did not say that!!! Read it for yourself in 1 Timothy 6:10. Just a small change or omission can make a big difference.
2. Another example is when a disaster hits you may have heard someone say, “the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away”. Same problem here. God did not say that. Job said that in Job 1:21 after his cattle, servants and children were all killed or stolen by enemies. God did not do that. Satan did that and had convinced even Job (a righteous man) that these were the actions of God.
Can you see what Satan is doing? He is always trying to shift the blame away from himself to God and he is very good at it.That is why it is so important for you and I to know the Word of God and know the heart of God. Satan has been doing this for a long time and if you don’t know the Word of God, and know God’s heart, you set yourself up for deception. It is the thief that comes to kill, steal and destroy, not God (John 10:10). Jesus came so that you and I could have life and life more abundantly. He wants you to prosper and be in health. Latch on to these scriptures and tell the devil to take a hike!
He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. (Matthew 13:28-30)
