Scripture for the Day (June 16, 2015)
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. (II Corinthians 11:3)
Have you noticed how complicated everything has become lately, or am I just getting old? It seems that nothing is simple anymore. I just spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get a particular image to fit on our website. It is almost like we now have to be a graphic artist, computer geek, accountant, and lawyer to survive this complicated world.
I can remember as a young boy when we did not even have a television in our home. Imagine that! I had a radio that I listened to the Lone Ranger on and that was the extent of my media entertainment. When we finally did get a television it only had one or two channels and they were black and white. We now have hundreds of channels in every kind of format you can think of. Too many choices!!
Well, I have some very good news for all you people out there that feel like I do. There are still a few things that are very simple and very rewarding.
1. You can be saved and go to Heaven (Roman 10:9)
2. You can be baptized with the Holy Ghost (Matt. 3:11)
3. You can be forgiven (1 John 1:9)
4. You can have power over the enemy (Luke 10:19)
5. You can be free indeed (John 8:36)
All these things are available to you and I by simply believing. No strings attached. Just believe it in your heart and confess it with your mouth. The price has already been paid. Don’t let the complicated world we presently live in beguile you into believing it somehow has to be more complicated than that. The power of the Gospel is hidden in it’s simplicity.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; (1 Corinthians 1:25-27)
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Luke 11:13)
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:3)
