Scripture for the Day (December 19, 2018)
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. (Psalm 33:12)
I know, we are supposed to be a Christian nation. We already have Jesus. Do we??? As I sit here this morning reflecting on our great country it is sometimes hard to see Jesus in our present actions. It appears that we want to spend every second trying to tear down our leaders rather than praying for them and working together to find solutions. Our academic institutions have made it a point to teach about everything that ever went wrong in our country rather than all the things that went right. If a company is wildly successful in business then we make every effort to tear that founder down, and their business, rather than rejoicing with them and helping them cure any problems. We will spend whatever it takes to pull down whomever and whatever is at the top because the tearer-downers are supposedly so much smarter than the ones in leadership roles. There is just something basically wrong with that approach and if this spirit continues it will divide and destroy our nation.
And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. (Mark 3:25)
The United States of America is the greatest country in the world!!! Why do you think we have so many immigrants that want to come to this country? All you need to do is visit a few foreign countries and you will quickly see how blessed and fortunate we are to live in the USA.
Now, all that is well and good but what do we do about it. Do we need a new form of government? Do we need new leaders? Do we need amendments to our Constitution? No to all of those!!! We need a heart change in this nation. We need a revival. We need to start doing the Word of God! We need JESUS!!!
Let’s reflect for just a minute on quotes made by several former Presidents of our country:
“It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.” (George Washington)
“The Bible is the rock on which our Republic rests.” (Andrew Jackson)
“I enter a most earnest plea that in our hurried and rather bustling life of today we do not lose the hold that our forefathers had on the Bible. I wish to see the Bible study as much a matter of course in the secular colleges as in the seminary. No educated man can afford to be ignorant of the Bible, and no uneducated man can afford to be ignorant of the Bible.” (Theodore Roosevelt)
“Of the many influences that have shaped the United States into a distinctive nation and people, none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible.” (Ronald Reagan)
So, if you want to see a change as bad as I do then let’s all start with this scripture:
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
If we will be obedient to the Word of God He will do this:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
