Scripture for the Day – December 10, 2019
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)
As I reflect back on the year of 2019, there were some major things that the Lord spoke to me that could be very beneficial to all of our devotional readers. The following is a brief summary of just some of those things. Think about them!
- So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) What about His voice? Is not His voice the word of God? But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (John 10:27) Think about that!
- God is not just limited to the pages of the Bible. He is still speaking to man through His Holy Spirit. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13) Think about that!
- The “sovereignty of God” doctrine that is taught in many churches (which teaches that God is in control of everything) is a faith killer. The roots of this doctrine are from predestination and it creates a passive and lazy theology that promotes what will be, will be. God has given all of us a free will. He has a good plan for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11) but we have the choice to follow those plans or not. His will is that none should perish, but do we see people perishing? Of course we do! He lays before all of us life and death but, we have to choose. Think about that!
- The Book of Job is probably the most misunderstood book in the Bible. It is the source of more bad theology than any other book (in my opinion). Certain scriptures from Job are sung about and turned into universal doctrines that are used to describe God. And (Job) said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. (Job 1:21) Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. (Job 13:15) The problem with associating these scriptures with God is that they don’t describe God’s actions. It was Satan who was doing all these things. Job is the question. Jesus is the answer. Think about that!
- God is good and He is good all the time. He is so good that we can’t even imagine it. It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. He is so good that even Jesus told His disciples not to call Him good because God was the only one that was good. Think about that!
Our enemy is very deceptive. He will twist the Word of God in an attempt to get us to doubt the goodness of God. We have to know God personally. We cannot rely on someone else to know God for us. We have to be able to hear God for ourselves. We have to know the heart of God and be able to recognize and reject anything that exalts itself above the knowledge of God. Think about that!!!
