Scripture for the Day
December 30, 2020
My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from
you. (Proverbs 4:20-24)
(By Chris Musgrove of Future Now)
I’ve heard it said that if you shake up a can of coke and then pop the top, coke will come spewing out everywhere. Why? Because that’s what’s inside the can! That’s the way people are. Whatever is in them will come out, especially when they get shook up or upset. What’s inside of you?
Psalm 119:11 says, “Your Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Have you hidden God’s Word in your heart? If you have, it should be coming out of your mouth.
Matthew 12:34 says, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” That’s why Proverbs 4 says to hear the Word and keep it in your heart, so that Word is what will be coming out of your mouth. In verse 24 it says, “Put away a deceitful mouth and perverse lips.” At one time I didn’t think this verse applied to me because I didn’t lie or cuss. But deceitful words are any words that mislead people, even in joking. Perverse lips are anything that is contrary to the Word of God.
I Peter 2:24 says, “By whose stripes you were healed“, and Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” So to say that I know I’m going to get sick or I’m going broke is contrary to and is a perversion of the Word of God. Ephesians 4:29-30 says, “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:15 says, “but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head even Christ.”
Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Everyone wants to be prosperous and have good success. But it starts in what you hear, see and say. What’s going into your ears and what you’re putting before your eyes will affect what’s in your heart, which in turn affects what you say and do. If you want to be prosperous and have success begin to find out what God is saying and doing and do that. Begin to look at the life of Jesus in God’s Word and you will see what the Father is saying and doing. In John 5:19 Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” We need to learn how to shut out everything, except what God is saying and doing, and say and do that.
