Scripture for the Day – August 25, 2020

And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. (Acts 13:22)

God said that David, the psalmist, was a man after His own heart (Acts 13:22). To me, Psalm 107 is a heart cry from David to all manhood. In reading this Psalm you need to understand that when David is talking to man that the Hebrew word used for man is “Adam”. Adam was a man, which included man and woman, since woman came out of man and God called His created image “them” (Genesis 1:26-28).

The next thing you need to understand is that the word “Oh or O” in the Hebrew is an exclamatory particle that means intense emotion. It is a word that carries with it an intense heart cry, a literal cry from the gut. This is not just a word that is used to complete a sentence.

The following are several excerpts from Psalm 107 (with links to songs) that will help you understand the heart of David and the heart of God. Read it with the intense emotion that David wrote it with.

O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. (Psalm 107:1-3).

Redeemed: That is You and Me, and He is still redeeming!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSyLqbP8Z4I

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron; Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High: (Psalm 107:8-11)

Deliverance: He was, and still is, in the deliverance business!!!

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! (Psalm 107:15) … and they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. (Psalm 107:18-20)

Healing: He is still our healer!!!

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. (Psalm 107:21-24) He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. (Psalms 107:29-30)

He is with us through storms and guides us to a safe haven!!!

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders. (Psalms 107:31-32) He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings. And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation; And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase. He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease. (Psalms 107:35-38)

Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord. (Psalm 107:43)
