Scripture for the Day – July 23, 2020

Deuteronomy 30:19-20: I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.

Jeremiah 21:8 says, “Furthermore, tell the people, ‘This is what the LORD says: See, I am setting before you the way of life and the way of death.’”

Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].”

You choose life or death by the words you speak, and what you really believe (what’s really in your heart) will eventually come out of your mouth.

Matthew 12:34 says, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

Proverbs 13:3 says, “The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; the one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” We need to guard our words because the words we speak need to line up with the words of Jesus, for they are life. In

John 6:63 Jesus said, “The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”

John 6:68 says, “Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

John 15:7 says, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

In John 10:10 Jesus also said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

The Amplified Bible says, “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” The thief hates and brings death, but Jesus loves and is love, and He brings life.

I John 3:14 says, “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.”

I choose life, because I choose Jesus. I choose to speak His words, which are words of life.
