“Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth forever.” (Psalm 112:1-4)
What an awesome promise! Sounds to me like God’s heart is for you and I to prosper! However, the secret to inheriting the promise is to line up with the conditions. The conditions in this case include fearing (respecting) the Lord, delighting ourselves in the Word of God, and sowing seed.
In today’s fast food society we always want things instantly. However, in God’s society, most things are a process (line upon line). God can still do instant miracles, but most things are a process.
First, there needs to be a respect and reverence (fear) for the things of God. That takes humility, getting to the end of ourselves, and recognizing that we need God’s help.
Secondly, after we have humbled ourselves before God, we need to delight ourselves in the Word of God. Most people do not have a clue how powerful the Word of God is. The Bible is not just a religious book. It is quick (alive) and powerful and able to discern the thoughts and the intents of your heart. It can change your thinking! It can give you supernatural wisdom and guidance! It can save you and give you eternal life! It can heal your body! It can provide answers for you that no other source can! But the key to receiving any of this is that you need to read it. That is the first way that you show respect. If a rich relative left a lengthy will that was full of gifts to be disbursed between certain family members, including yourself, would you not read it? I bet you would read every word to make sure you obtained your portion of that inheritance. How much more should you know what your inheritance is from God!
Finally, seed is a big key to prosperity! “Seed” in the context of Psalm 112 does not only refer to your children but also the finances that you sow. Verse 5 of Psalm 112 describes a good man as one that lendeth and verse 9 says that he hath dispersed and hath given to the poor. Your seed is mighty!!!! The definition for the Hebrew word for “mighty” in Psalm 112 includes “victory”, “warrior”, and “go to war”. The victory is in the seed that you sow! The battle is waged with the seed that you sow! The war is fought with the seed that you sow! But seed is worthless if not planted. The world describes big givers as philanthropic. God calls them blessed.
One of our former Sunday school teachers in Memphis, TN had a saying that has always stuck with us over the years. That saying was that “the victory is not in the fight but in the surrender”. We pass that on to you today. Surrender to God, respect the things of God, delight yourselves in the Word of God, sow bountifully, and your house will prosper!
