Some people believe that all our steps are ordered by God and therefore we have no say in our own future or destiny. Many believe in predestination to the point that if anything happens (good or bad) it is somehow planned or approved by God. Let’s take a close look at the scriptures to determine what is the real truth.
Psalm 37:23 says, “the steps of a good man (or woman) are ordered by God”. That would appear to some to prove that God is in charge of our every step. Let’s look at it a little closer. The word orderedis the key here. The Hebrew word used in this context is “kuwn” which means prepared, provided, established, ordained, right, proper and prosperous. God has prepared and established a way for us to walk in that is right and prosperous but it is up to us to seek it out and walk in it.
You first have to be equipped with the sight and vision to see the way. Jesus said in John 3:3, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. So the first step is to be born again so you can see the right path. Jesus also said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”. Notice he did not say he was one of the ways but the way.
I was born again on April 15, 1982 and looking back on the steps Cheryl and I have taken since that time we can clearly see major turning points in our journey. One of those turning points was in 1988 when I was offered a promotion and would need to move from Memphis, TN to Jacksonville, FL. We did not know for sure if this was the right step so I took off work for several days and went to a cabin in the woods and read the Word and prayed. During that time I read scriptures in the New Testament book of Hebrews about Abraham and how he was called to go out into a new and unfamiliar place and in that place he would receive and inheritance (blessing) and he obeyed. It was that time with God and His Word that disclosed and confirmed the next step to take. The step was there, it was prepared, but I had to seek God for it and I had to make the choice to step out.
Shortly after moving to Jacksonville, FL, we met Brig and Lita Hart and were asked to start New Life Network. We have seen thousands of people come into the Kingdom of God since 1989 but that would have never happened in our lives if we had not taken that step. There have also been many attempts by the enemy along the way to knock us off that path and he will do the same to you. That is his job. Your job is to stay faithful to your calling, regardless of what anyone says or does.
Are you on an unstable and shaky path? Are you on a path that has not been prosperous? Are you on a path that is a way but not the way? If so, we want to encourage you today to make a decision to accept God’s way (Jesus Christ) and get on the right path to stability and blessing. III John 2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth”. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock”… (Jesus – Revelation 3:20)
