A New Thing

Scripture Of The Day

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."

Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)

By Cheryl Henderson

As we approach the new year, Isaiah 43:19 comes to my mind to serve as a powerful reminder of God's constant work in our lives. This verse encourages us to embrace change and to be open to the new beginnings that God is bringing forth.

The phrase "I am doing a new thing" invites us to reflect on our past year—its challenges, its joys, and the lessons learned. The wilderness and wastelands we may have encountered symbolize times of spiritual drought or struggle. Yet, in the midst of these experiences, God assures us that He is actively creating pathways and streams of blessings.

As we step into the new year, let us cultivate a posture of anticipation. What new opportunities and transformations might God be preparing for us? Just as streams nourish the earth, God’s new works in our lives can refresh our spirits and guide us forward.

Reflection: In this moment of transition, take time to pray and ask God to reveal the new things He is doing in your life. What can you let go of to fully embrace these changes? How can you prepare your heart to perceive His work?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the promise that you are doing a new thing in my life. Help me to perceive it and to trust that you are making a way even in the most challenging circumstances. As I step into this new year, fill my heart with hope and anticipation for what lies ahead. Amen.

May this new year be filled with the fresh streams of God's blessings and the joy of new beginnings!
