When God Chooses the Unlikely

Scripture Of The Day

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

1 Corinthians 1:27

By Cheryl Henderson

The world teaches us to measure worth by talent, influence, and achievement. We admire the polished, the powerful, and the impressive. Yet Scripture reveals a surprising pattern in the way God works: He delights in choosing the unlikely.

Paul reminds the Corinthian church that God intentionally uses what seems foolish and weak to display His glory. This is not accidental. It is purposeful. When God works through our limitations, no one can mistake the source of the power. The credit does not go to human brilliance—it goes to divine grace.

This truth reshapes our perspective on ourselves. Many believers quietly disqualify themselves: I’m not educated enough. I’m not confident enough. I don’t have the right past. But God is not searching for perfection; He is looking for availability. The very places you feel inadequate may be the places God wants to shine most brightly.

Today, bring your weakness to Him instead of hiding it. Offer Him your ordinary, your broken, your uncertain. God has a long history of turning “foolish things” into instruments of eternal impact—and He is not finished yet.
