Scripture for the Day – August 27, 2019
For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. (Hebrews 9:16-17)
The definition of will or testament in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary is a legal declaration of a person’s wishes regarding the disposal of his or her property or estate after death. Our inheritance was lost when man was separated from God when he fell into sin through disobedience in the Garden of Eden. Satan gained control of the earth even though the earth belonged to God. Satan has a temporary lease. God became a man through the person of His Son Jesus Christ for the purpose of redeeming us back from Satan’s power.
Hebrews 9:16-17 in the Amplified Bible says it like this, “For where there is a [last] will and testament involved, the death of the one who made it must be established, For a will and testament is valid and takes effect only at death, since it has no force or legal power as long as the one who made it is alive.”
Acts 26:18 says, “To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.”
Galatians 3:22 in the Amplified Bible says, “But the Scriptures [picture all mankind as sinners] shut up and imprisoned by sin, so that [the inheritance, blessing] which was promised through faith in Jesus Christ (the Messiah) might be given (released, delivered, and committed) to [all] those who believe [who adhere to and trust in and rely on Him].”
God’s Word or Testament is God’s Will for us. His Word is full of His promises to us. As we study the Word of God, it is just like reading a Will to determine your inheritance. As you read it with spiritual eyes, you will discover what belongs to you.
Ephesians 1:18 says, “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.”
Colossians 1:12 says, “Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.”
Do you know what belongs to you as a saint of God? Do you realize that you have a glorious inheritance?
