Scripture for the Day – July 1, 2020
Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers (angels of light), beware of the concision (legalism). For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. (Philippians 3:2-3)
We are living in a time of loud voices and great deception and deceit. If we are not very careful, we will be led astray by dogs, angels of light and legalism. The Apostle Paul warned us about this in Philippians 3 above. What is a dog exactly? When you look this word up in the Greek it is “kuon” which means a hound. It is pronounced as coon and it is obviously where we get our English word for a coon or hound dog.
If you are from the South, coon dogs are what we use to hunt coons with at night. They bark and bark when they hit the trail of a coon until they tree the coon. Other translations of the Bible use the following descriptions to describe dogs (men that behave like dogs; men whose work does only harm; false teachers; evil workers).
The Apostle Paul also spoke about his encounter with these type people in 2 Corinthians: And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. (2 Corinthians 11:1-15, NIV)
Now, let’s consider our current world situation as it relates to dogs and angels of light. We have bad reports coming from every direction. We have media reports that are constantly spewing negative predictions. We also have supposed prophetic messages circulating through social media from Pastors and teachers that are similar in nature. Be careful!!! A true prophetic message in New Testament times (which we live in) will edify, exhort and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3).
The Apostle Paul gives us direction in Philippians 4 about how to identify the things that will keep us free from anxiety and keep us in the peace of God:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
Beware of the barking dogs and angels of light!!!
