Scripture Of The Day

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

By Cheryl Henderson

We think of filters as physical devices: screens that strain out impurities so machines run cleaner and longer—air filters, oil filters, spam filters. Their job is simple and vital: remove what doesn’t belong so the system can function as intended.

But other filters shape our lives—unseen yet powerful. Family traditions, religious upbringing, political leanings, preferred news sources, teachers, ethnicity, and cultural habits all act as lenses through which we interpret the world. These filters influence how we judge people, evaluate information, and make decisions—and sometimes they keep us believing falsehoods.

In an age of instant information, discernment is more important than ever. Just because something appears online, on television, or comes from a respected authority doesn’t make it true. It’s easy to accept what’s handed to us rather than to test it, especially when those sources seem more educated or credible. But clarity and wisdom don’t come from convenience; they come from careful, intentional filtering.

Christian faith gives us filters that never fail: the Word of God and the guiding Spirit of God. When Scripture anchors our thinking and the Spirit shapes our hearts, we gain the ability to recognize error, distinguish right from wrong, and resist deception. These filters help us make wise choices, live with integrity, and experience the true flourishing God intends.

Commit to installing those filters daily—read the Word, pray for the Spirit’s guidance, and measure every claim against God’s truth. With these in place, you won’t be tossed by every new idea or swayed by every opinion. You’ll walk with confidence, discernment, and peace.
