Fragrance

Scripture Of The Day

But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.  For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task” 2 Corinthians 2:14-16

By Marilyn Greer

“Who has God called you to be?” To the positions mentioned of a soldier (sharer of suffering, singularly minded), athlete (race-runner, obedient to rules), farmer (planter and waterer of seeds), and disciple (follower of Jesus, influencer for Christ), let me add, perfumer (maker of pleasing aromas, fragrant).

In 2 Corinthians 2:14-16. The apostle Paul charges Christians to spread “the fragrance of the knowledge of Jesus everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, and to the other a fragrance from life to life.”

We should give off such a strong aroma that people are drawn to the source of that fragrance—Jesus in us. To exude with the fragrance of Christ, a disciple must be genuine, growing, and purposefully making an investment in the lives of others. Just as good food is known by the smell, so is a faithful disciple.

Do we pass the smell test? We’ve all used the smell test for spoiled items in the refrigerator, our armpits, or a baby’s diaper. God has been using the smell test for a long time, too. He knows the difference between a stench and a sweet-smelling fragrance.

So, what odor are you giving off? I hope you stink to high heaven. I mean, I hope you are fragrant disciple, a perfumer of life.
