God’s Messengers

Scripture Of The Day
"In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David." Luke 1:26–27
By Cheryl Henderson
These two verses quietly open one of the greatest interruptions of human expectation: God sends a messenger into an ordinary corner of the world. Nazareth was not a capital, a temple, or a place of influence. It was a small town. Yet God chose a specific moment, a specific person, and a specific messenger to begin his saving work.
Gabriel’s arrival reminds us that God’s plans often come through unexpected channels. He doesn’t only appear where we imagine; he meets us where we are—ordinary, engaged in daily life, feeling small or unremarkable. The messenger’s role was simple but profound: to deliver God’s initiative and call a human response. In Mary, we see the weight of that call—astonishment, courage, and humble surrender.
When God’s messengers come—through Scripture, through a friend, through a sudden conviction, or an angel—our first response can be surprise. The next steps matter more: will we listen, ask, accept, or run? Mary’s openness made space for God’s presence to become flesh and for hope to enter the world.
Prayer: Lord, help me recognize your messengers and receive your unexpected calls with courage and faith. Make my heart ready to say yes to your work in and through me. Amen.
