Lead By The Head

Scripture Of The Day

And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18)

By Cheryl Henderson (Excerpts from Chris Musgrove)

We can see from our daily scripture that Jesus Christ is the Head of the Body of Christ. If you are a born-again child of God, you are in the Body of Christ (the Church) and Jesus is your head (Lord and King). The last time I checked, the head is where your eyes and ears are located. Jesus wants to be your eyes and ears.

John 16:13 says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” Jesus said the Holy Spirit would come to live in you and would guide you and tell you what the Father says.

I believe in getting Godly counsel before making a decision, but I know Christians that are asking anyone and everyone what they should be doing. The best counsel is the Word of God, and if anybody counsels you contrary to the Word of God, you need to forget it.

I know some people who are more committed to what their denomination says than what the Word has to say. I once heard a pastor say not to believe everything he said just because he was the pastor. You need to check it out with the Word of God, and if it doesn’t line up with the Word, then forget it. What I think or what you think or your denomination thinks doesn’t really matter when it’s all said and done. What matters is what God’s Word says and if we were obedient to it.

I believe everybody needs to be a faithful member of a local church and be under a spiritual authority and covering. The purpose of that authority and covering is to help you stay in line with God’s Word. Hebrews 13:17 says, “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.” But, we should submit to our church leadership only if the church we attend follows the Bible as the ultimate authority, according to Hebrews 13:17.

Romans 8:14 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” The church is there for you to be trained up to learn to hear God and His Spirit for yourself.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:26)
