Scripture Of The Day

And the work of righteousness shall be peace. And the effect of righteousness is quietness and assurance forever. Isaiah 32:17

By Cheryl Henderson

What is righteousness? Simply put, it is right standing with God. When God breathed the breath of life into Adam, he was face-to-face with Adam. To me, righteousness is being face-to-face with God. He already knows everything, so why try to hide secret sins?

When I read today’s scripture, I was so encouraged to know that when I walk in righteousness, I will have peace, and that peace has effects on my life. Those effects are quietness and assurance forever.

When the world is screaming negative, I can have peace knowing I am face-to-face with God. Does that mean everything turns out perfect? No! Does that mean that God is going to do things my way? No! But I can trust God to make good on His promises. I can know that underneath are His everlasting arms. And if God be for us, who can be against us?

Does being righteous mean that I do everything perfectly? No! You and I are made righteous not by our deeds, but by receiving the righteousness of Christ by faith. Jesus made us righteous.

Three effects of righteousness;

1. Peace. The Hebrew word is Shalom. It means a state of wellness, completeness, & well-being.

2. Quietness The Hebrew word is again Shalom. It means peace, tranquility, and security.

3. Assurance The Hebrew word is Be tach. It means safety, security, or trust.

My friend, accept the fact that you are the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus. Start walking like it and talking like it. Don’t go by how you feel. Feelings are fickle. When we are face-to-face with God, we will have peace, security, safety, wellness, and well-being, quietness, and assurance in our lives. That’s how righteousness works.
